Most often used to describe a small but robust female, not necessarily unattractive but definitely fiesty, troublesome, hard work and not afraid to use her fists or any other weapon available. some women footballers from the mountainous regions in the north of the county, while not violent, could be described as hardy containers. Can be used to describe males, usually of the elderly, small and wiry, but tough variety.
"The little one from the mountain drinkin' the la' bottels with the gaa lads is a hardy little container, she'd walk out of a bear's cave with a new fur coat."
