Rarely seen anymore in Dublin - the gotchee was the aul fella who would sit in the workers hut and ostensibly be security for road works or factories - usualy some old soak sitting scuttered beside a brazier - the word derives from when the aul fella caught you when you were robbing the gaff and he exclaimed "got ye" . unfortunaltey as most security guards in Dublin are either african, polish or some other east european extraction christ knows what they say nowadays
"Jaysus we only managed to get over the wall before the gotchee saw us"
