It also therefore implies an extreme obsequiousness towards the Catholic Church, priests, monseignours, and especially junior bishops. A crawthumper will know every gradation of the clergy, from curate to pope, supplicant to reverend mother. Derogatory, the term has an anticlerical tinge.
