Bucky
Heard in Armagh
A popular alcoholic drink in Armagh and other Northern counties. Armagh is situated at one point on Norn Ayern's Bucky triangle, a mysterious area where young men and women frequently vanish without trace, only to turn up days later (usually in a field or graveyard), with no memory whatsoever of what happened or how they got there. The only common link to these events is that the people involved frequently wake up surrounded by empty bottles of Bucky. Ard Mhacha translates as the Height of Mhacha, Mhacha being an ancient Celtic Queen, however, purists argue that it strictly translates as 'The Mount of Mhacha' in reference to a guy she met one night after a party involving copious amounts of Bucky. The less politically correct aficionados frequently call Bucky, "A baddle o' bate the waieefe / wreck de houshe." You can get a party started anywhere in Armagh, all you need is a crate of the holy wine and "go on de swally," however, too many and Armagh-geddon may ensue.
We'd a feed o' Bucky last night an' I woke up in a field outside Keady.
We consumed a generous quantity of fortified tonic wine last evening, and I awoke in a field on the outskirts of Keady.
